This month, our focus is on Women’s Health as we celebrate International Women’s day on March 8th. It’s a day of collective global activism and celebration that belongs to all those committed to forging women’s equality.
World-renowned feminist, journalist and activist, Gloria Steinem, reportedly once explained:
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
This years theme is “Inspiring Inclusion”, and we are very lucky to have so many amazing women included here at Diamond Creek Medical Centre, from our staff (management, receptionists, doctors, nurses and allied health) right through to our patients.
We want to continue to inspire inclusion to all women, particularly with regards to their health. Even in 2024, women can still experience gender based healthcare disparities.
3 key issues that impact on women’s health care are: male research bias; underdiagnosis of common (and deadly) diseases; and disbelief or undertreatment of women’s pain.
Health care topics that affect women specifically involve:
- Maternal, sexual and reproductive health
- Mental health and body image
- Chronic conditions and preventative health
- Healthy ageing
- Prevention of violence against women
- Healthy and active living
Here at Diamond Creek Medical Centre we are proud to offer all encompassing clinical services to women. Our doctors and nurses can advise you on the above areas, and help you to access allied health providers or specialist care if needed. We encourage all our female patients to take some time to look after their health, paying particular attention to preventative checks that will help you to stay well and active. We have 2 female GP’s if you prefer, but all our GP’s are trained to provide you with any care you may need. Women’s health services offered here include:
- Pregnancy and reproductive counselling and referrals
- Sexual health screening
- Postnatal checks
- Breast checks
- Cervical Screening
- Menopause and perimenopause consultations
- Preventative health screening
- Mental health services
- And many more.
Please book an appointment for a check up and take your health as seriously as we do.
